Golden Eagle Art Gallery is pleased to offer an extensive collection of world-renowned artworks by Canadian wildlife artist, Robert Bateman.  World-travelled and well versed, Bateman always tells a great story about each of his creations. Here is what he has to say about this piece:

"One of the oldest of the stock comic characters, the harlequin originated in Italian popular comedy of the 16th century. The harlequin's traditional fanciful costume is a multicoloured diamond pattern. This little duck, who is something of a dandy, is appropriately named.

In the summer, if you are lucky enough to see breeding pairs of harlequin ducks, they may be found by cold, rushing mountain streams along which they make their nests, well concealed under bushes or in rock crevices."
