Golden Eagle Art Gallery is pleased to offer an extensive collection of world-renowned artworks by Canadian wildlife artist, Robert Bateman. World-travelled and well versed, Bateman always tells a great story about each of his creations. Here is what he has to say about this piece:
"If one word were chosen to describe the fox, that word would be bright. That would include two meanings of the word, mentally bright and physically bright.
Foxes are famous for their cleverness. Crafty as a fox is an old saying. They can hunt and obtain a wide variety of food with great success and agility. They can find their way into chicken coops and dangerous situations and usually get away unscathed.
They can lead a pack of hounds on a merry chase using tricks to cover their trail. Their wily ways have helped them to extend their territory well within human settlements. Recently there has been a population explosion of foxes in London, England.
Their physical brightness is legenday. The much-admired (and sometimes worn) orange and rust coat is spectacular. Every inch of the fox fur is different from the adjacent patch for reasons of physiology. Since ''variety is the spice of life' is one of my mottoes, I revel in depicting the different textures of the fox's external anatomy. I also find the back lighting glowing through the fur as exciting as viewing a stained glass window."
