It is images like "The Long Autumn" that helped establish Stephen's incredible popularity in the world of limited edition fine art prints. Here, wildlife and wilderness are sewn into a seamless landscape, the bighorn sheep blending almost imperceptibly among the rocks and grasses in the background. Andrea Lyman notes that while the warm, golden palette was unusual for Steve, it perfectly evokes the sense of a promise fulfilled. "After a summer of plenty," she says, "comes the satisfaction and ease of autumn. The sheep are well-prepared for winter . . . there's still time for them to bask in the sunlight."
