"I see the mountain as a metaphor for our place in history at the beginning of the 21st century. We need to look behind at our wonderful natural and human heritage, and cherish and protect the abundant values to be found there. We need to look out to the sides and see other parts of the world that need our help, but that can also give us good ideas to go forward. Then we need to look ahead to be certain that our actions will make the world a better and richer and more varied place for our grandchildren and their grandchildren."
